QBCC Financial Audits
We are often contacted by clients facing a financial audit by the QBCC and an impending QBCC Licence suspension. The QBCC are empowered to access QBCC Licence Applicants and QBCC Licensees financial information at the times set out below:
- On application for a QBCC Licence
- Where the Maximum Revenue requires adjustment
- Where the Net Tangible Asset position has decreased by more than 30%
- On QBCC compliance Audit
- Pursuant to an approved QBCC Audit programme
- On expiry of the QBCC Licensee's Professional Indemnity Insurance Policy
- On request by the QBCC Licensee
- At the discretion of the Commission
In practice a QBCC financial audit often occurs "At the discretion of the Commission" after the QBCC receive complaints from other contractors or trade suppliers that a particular QBCC Licensee is failing to pay its debts in a timely fashion.
The result of the QBCC commencing an Audit can often be the threat of an impending QBCC Licence suspension and this can lead to a lack of confidence in the Licensee by others in the industry as well as existing customers and potential customers. This lack of confidence can result in the financial demise of the QBCC Licensee.
Lawyers Qld Building and Construction Lawyers are experienced in dealing with the QBCC on behalf of QBCC Licensees. Our goal is to help you comply with the QBCC requirements and take all steps to avoid your QBCC licence being suspended.

QBCC Notifiable Plumbing Work Audits
On 1 November 2012 a new category of plumbing and drainage work called 'notifiable work' was introduced. Notifable work extends the amount of work a plumber or drainer can perform without a local government permit or mandatory inspections.
When plumbing or drainage work is performed a Form 4 - Notifiable work needs to be submitted to QBCC.
QBCC audits the lodging of forms to ensure that QBCC Licensees are complying with their obligations. QBCC can request that a QBCC Licensee provide documentation (in limited circumstances) regarding an audit and may take disciplinary action against QBCC Licensees that do not comply. Licensees do have rights and the QBCC can only demand cooperation in limited circumstance. Call us to advise you of your rights.
If you think you may be, or have been issued with a QBCC penalty, call Lawyers Qld for legal advice on how this may affect you QBCC Licence and how you can defend the imposition of a fine and demerit points. Act quickly as your time to dispute the penalty is limited by the legislation. Call a specialist QBCC Licence Lawyer now on Brisbane or Regional Qld 0730365233 or Gold Coast 0756772533.
